RELEASE: SP-33 | Escape From Tha Carter

Escape from tha Carter is not your average concept remix album, unlike 500 Days of Weezy, which was nice, Chicago electronic musician SP-33 goes one step further and transforms Wayne’s records into something completely different, it’s a sound with a lot of dark energy infused into it. Sometimes Lil Wayne’s influence on the album isn’t very obvious, but you can still hear it, as if his lost soul was bumping around the depths of each track. Completely unlike anything I have ever heard before.
According to SP-33 the inspiration behind the album, which samples the score of “Escape From New York”, was dark grimmey sci-fi flicks which sparked the imagination of what pop music on the radio stations of those movies would sound like. SP-33 describes it as “dark, distorted, and grimmey pop/hip-hop music”, and not just another collection of Lil Wayne mash-up’s, something I completely agree on. Below are two tracks on the album, the first titled ‘Escape From Tha Carter’ which is a completely surreal alert of Lil Wayne’s escape from some facility, the second is one of the more coherent remixes to the Wayne track ‘Hustler Musik’.
